Responsibilities

Characterization of factors that affect early-life microbial colonization
Identification of microbial biomarkers or endotypes linked to health and performance
Development of strategies to manipulate the heifer microbiome for more efficient and environmentally sustainable milk production
Gain knowledge in DNA sequencing technologies and computational biology approaches
Hands-on experiences will include sample processing, DNA/RNA extraction, nucleic acid quality control, and sequencing assays
Receive training in computational biology and statistical analyses using sequencing data generated from these activities
Collaborate with other researchers, prepare presentations, and develop educational materials

Required

Currently pursuing or have received a bachelor's degree in one of the relevant fields
Degree must have been received within the past five years or is anticipated to be received by start of appointment
U.S. Citizen Only

Preferred

Experience with basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting, sample processing, and sterile handling
Familiarity with DNA technology and quality control procedures for nucleic acids
Strong motivation to gain hands-on experience in laboratory and computational methods
Organization and time management
Ability to perform basic statistical analyses (exploratory and correlation)
Willingness to participate in collaborative projects, team-oriented mindset
Curiosity about rumen microbial ecology and sustainable dairy production systems
