Environmental Scientist
VHB is an innovative team of engineers, scientists, planners, and designers, and they are seeking an Environmental Scientist to join their Natural Science group in Providence, RI. The role involves conducting vital surveys, preparing reports, and navigating environmental permitting to help clients make informed decisions.
Responsibilities
Conduct natural resource surveys including wetland delineations, wildlife habitat evaluations, and rare species surveys
Prepare comprehensive studies and technical reports, including environmental impact statements and assessments
Develop federal, state, and local permit applications and ensure compliance with environmental regulations
Design and conduct studies on key ecological issues to support public and private sector clients
Maintain ongoing dialog with clients to keep them apprised of project status and any changes in conditions
Establish and track project milestones and business goals, manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables, and supervise junior staff
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a related field required
3-5 years of professional environmental consulting experience required
Ability and willingness to work in physically challenging outdoor situations in all weather conditions, with regular travel to project sites in southern New England
Experience in plant species identification and soil characterization in the Northeast, and the ability to identify and describe wildlife habitats and ecological communities
Familiarity with state and federal wetland regulations, land use environmental regulations, and environmental permitting
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Highly motivated self-starter with excellent problem-solving abilities
Team-oriented with the capability to motivate and mentor others
Proficiency in collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and deliverables
