We are seeking Applied Scientist Interns to contribute to research and prototyping efforts in GenAI involving structured and unstructured data by building AI Agents, alignment of reasoning LLMs, retrieval techniques and inference scaling
As an intern in the Applied Science team, you will contribute to the design and development of enterprise-grade AI agents fueled by reasoning-focused LLMs that power Oracle’s next-generation analytics and data platforms
We are looking for PhD students who excel in working independently given a problem, can find relevant work quickly and develops hypothesis and research questions with strong empirical skills to solve the problem
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Linguistics or a related field during the 2025-2026 school year AND returning to the program after completion of the internship

Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing scalable AI/ML systems for real-world or production-like environments
Strong foundation in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Generative AI, with emphasis on LLMs and reasoning models
Experience working with structured data systems (SQL, analytics engines, schemas) and unstructured data (documents, text corpora)
Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks and agentic tooling such as: LangChain, VectorStores, retrievers and hybrid retrieval, Graph-based or knowledge-augmented generation (GraphRAG), LLM Cache, orchestration, and LLMOps (MLFlow), Fine-tuning LLMs, Reinforcing Learning, Reward modeling, Inference scaling, training verifiers and critic models
Strong research background with a solid publication record (with publications in ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICLR, NAACL, etc.)
Reside in the United States and/or attend a university in the US
Able to obtain work authorization in the US in 2026

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
