Data Management Specialist
VCU School of Public Health is seeking a Data Management Specialist in the Department of Biostatistics. The role involves building electronic case report forms, providing data access and reporting, performing audits, and facilitating data transfers, all while ensuring high-quality data entry and effective communication with study teams.
Responsibilities
Electronic Case Report Form Builder: Become a power user of available electronic data collection tools, such as the Research Electronic Data Collection (REDCap) and Veeva Electronic Data Capture systems and build solutions to fit investigator needs
Data Access and Reporting: Provide data access to authorized data consumers through a blend of established systems and ad hoc reporting
Perform Audits: Generate queries to locate missing, out of range and incongruent data entries. Communicate issues for follow-up and follow through to ensure resolution of discrepancies. Promote high quality and consistent data entry across multiple study sites
Communication and Rapport Building: Effectively communicate and build trust with DCC and client study team members across multiple remote sites, cultivating a friendly relationship while serving as the front line enforcement of data collection requirements
Data Transfer: Facilitate secure file transfers, backups, and data sharing using platforms like FileLocker, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc
Knowledge Management: Proactively document solutions in the preferred format and platform for dissemination within and outside the team
Innovation and Initiative: Act as a self-starter who is excited by challenges and capable of independently identifying and implementing effective solutions in accordance with organizational policy
Qualification
Required
High level of attention to detail
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to triage complex technical issues. Ability to document technical processes and create user-friendly guides
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace suite of tools, particularly spreadsheets
Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to detect subtle nuances
Familiarity with medical terminology, or the ability to learn quickly, is required
Demonstrated ability to manage assignments, prioritize work details, and perform tasks accurately and consistently
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred
Associates or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
Familiarity with research processes and workflows
