Financial Aid Advisor
UC Santa Barbara is dedicated to supporting students in achieving their educational goals through its Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The Financial Aid Advisor plays a crucial role in coordinating major aid programs and providing guidance to students and parents on financial aid processes and available resources.
Higher Education
Responsibilities
Coordinates and administers one or more financial aid programs
Interprets requirements, policies, and procedures as they relate to UCSB's financial aid operations
Insures that UCSB is in compliance with all program policies
Develops new methods, procedures, and policy proposals that ensure adherence to federal and state regulations
Analyzes and resolves all problems related to the program
Serves as the main resource person to the systems programmers for developing specifications and testing related software
Prepares analytical reports and presents program updates to staff at weekly meetings and at ad hoc training workshops
Responsible for reviewing and making a decision on all appeals submitted by students
Independently reviews students' and parents' unique circumstances, analyzes documentation, and makes adjustments to federal need analysis methodology and students' awards
Advises students, parents, campus staff, and the general public in all areas of financial aid administration
Explains the application process, program regulations, aid eligibility criteria, and budgeting and money management
Performs difficult and sensitive counseling and advising which involves problem solving
Independently applies all elements of need analysis and award packaging to individual aid applications
Determines aid eligibility and authorizes original or revised aid packaged
Conducts workshops for student groups, campus departments, and for organizations outside of the University
Qualification
Required
Bachelors degree or equivalent training Bachelor's Degree
Proven adaptability and ability to work efficiently with multiple deadlines and schedules
Preferred
Financial Aid administrative experience
Basic knowledge of federal aid programs and application process
Basic knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid
Basic knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
Ability to apply knowledge of policies to individual situations
Problem identification and critical thinking skills
Ability to calculate financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
Demonstrates written and verbal communication skills. Active listening skills. Possesses customer service orientation skills
Ability to assess processes and recommend improvements. Good interpersonal skills
Proficiency with standard office software, internet, and email applications. Basic knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs
Experience using complex databases
