Responsibilities

Aligns the HR strategy with the business plan to ensure that support levels to allow the management team to execute successfully. Serves as the hands-on HRBP for a significant portion of the P&L and bolsters team in the support of the remainder
As an HR Team member, always models and embodies the integrity, character and values that we demand of our workforce
Where not standardized, follows process/procedure/protocol specific to the country population being supported
Leads and supports all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from sourcing and recruiting to offboarding – and everything in between
Establishes and models a tone exhibiting the importance of diversity, inclusion and belonging in all applicable aspects of engagement with the business. Ensures that all internal stakeholders are mindful of the benefits and implications of DIB and that efforts are always made to further diversify the business, in every sense of the term
Ensures that HCM is timely and accurately updated concerning all aspects of the employee lifecycle
Aligns with Operations and business leadership to guide overall union avoidance and labor relations efforts. Ensures communication to ensure the organization remains union free. Builds relationships at all levels of the business, engaging equally well with senior leadership and direct labor workforce. Works with business leadership to understand and apply fair and consistent treatment of employees in context of policy, precedent, and in balance of advocating for the employee and the Company. Ensures HR has an intermittent, proactive presence in the supported branches
Collaborates with the Service Center leadership team to understand and execute on the organization’s goals
Partners with Samuel HR Centers of Excellence (COE) to implement corporate strategies and initiatives within the Packaging business
Administers and adjusts HR programs to fit, including, but not limited to employee relations; talent acquisition; compensation, benefits, and leave management; discipline; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development. Partners with the Packaging EH&S team to manage and enhance occupational health & safety
Ensures the fair and consistent application of employee absence plans; oversees leave administration; reviews and works with COE on the assessment and adjustment of related programs
Identifies staffing and recruiting needs, partners with the talent acquisition COE and leads the business effort to source the best talent; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management
Supports Worker’s Compensation Claims management and ensures all preventive measures, return to work measures and accommodations are explored and implemented, in conjunction with EH&S
Counsels, coaches, and guides business leadership on matters of employee relations and policy interpretation; administers and executes routine tasks such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, facilitating restructuring plans and carrying out terminations
Responsible for supporting subordinate HR team members in their own professional, personal and career development efforts; always seeks occasions to provide broadening and stretch opportunities. Coaches, course corrects, and performance manages team, as needed
Maintains and updates job knowledge and HR acumen by identifying opportunities for personal professional development and continuing education, builds professional network (internal and external), participates in professional organizations and leverages for the benefit of the business
Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the HCM
Ensures annual compliance reporting requirements are met, including but not limited to AAP, VETS-4212, and EEO-1. Ensures compliance with the region’s in-branch state, federal and Samuel posting requirements, e.g. Poster Guard
Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, provincial, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices. Reviews, recommends, socializes and implements changes to policy and practice to maintain compliance. Partners with local Canadian-based Samuel HR practitioners when necessary to ensure adequate workforce support
Analyzes and maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to the leadership team
Investigates and, with business leadership, adjudicates disputes or issues, such as working conditions, disciplinary actions and employee and applicant appeals
Expected to periodically lead or contribute to larger-scale enterprise efforts or projects
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in an advanced HR role required
7-10 years overall business experience
Multi-site & multi-state HR support experience required; 5+ discrete facilities & states preferred
Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a VUCA environment required
Knowledge of HR Policy and Procedure, US employment law (EEO, ADA, AA, FMLA, etc.), Compensation practices, Recruitment & staffing practices, multiple HR disciplines
Experience supporting a geographically dispersed manufacturing workforce of 500 or more
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail
Agile mindset, head on a swivel, with the ability to anticipate and quickly adapt to changing priorities and unexpected obstacles to progress required
Superior ability to communicate well at different levels of the organization verbally and via written communication
Superior change management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to promote positive working relationships
Ability to understand and abide by all safety rules and regulations to perform the job
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality
Must have strong organizational and time management skills
Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills and experience with ERP, HCM, ATS and timekeeping

Preferred

Evidence of commitment to continuing HR education (PHR/SPHR/CP/SCP certification) strongly preferred
Experience supporting a manufacturing, highly regulated business strongly preferred
Multi-site & multi-state HR support experience preferred; 5+ discrete facilities & states preferred
Strong ERP report-writing skills preferred
Oracle Fusion, Taleo preferred
