The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Laboratory Research Technician III to support a funded research program in the Department of Ophthalmology focused on restoring vision after optic nerve damage. The role involves conducting laboratory experiments, managing specimen inventory, and preparing documentation for publication.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures

Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation

Oversees specimen inventory

Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals

The Lab Technician will be engaged in the performance of approved research projects according to defined and newly established protocols and procedures

These include the appropriate collection, recording, storage, data analysis, and reporting of results

Laboratory procedures and techniques include, but are not limited to, handling and care of murine models (rats and mice), optic nerve surgery, tissue dissecting, tissue sectioning, tissue culturing, immunohistochemistry, and basic microscopy

Other routines include preparation of reagents, calibration of equipment for research projects, collaborative efforts with other laboratories employing molecular biology techniques and maintenance of a safe laboratory-working environment

Required

BS in biology or related fields

2-3 years of relevant experience

Combination of education and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education and/or experience requirement
