Assistant Director for Research Development and Compliance
Governors State University is seeking an Assistant Director for Research Development and Compliance to provide leadership and strategic support for the University’s research development goals. The role involves ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, leading faculty and student research initiatives, and providing regulatory support to the University’s Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

Responsibilities
Designing and managing initiatives to advance research and creative activities for faculty and students
Providing support for administrative processes involves several key tasks, including monitoring compliance with research regulations; overseeing consent and protocol adherence; renewing the Federal-wide Assurance (FWA) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) registrations with the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP); onboarding and training new committee members; advising investigators on compliance matters; conducting related data entry, analysis, and reporting of activities for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); managing IRB and IACUC records in accordance with regulations and university policies; monitoring and updating the IRB and IACUC websites to ensure accurate research compliance information; and providing oversight of Cayuse IRB use and maintenance
Developing, updating, implementing internal procedures, practices, and working with the chairs of the committees to ensure that the University’s policies and procedures related to research remain compliant and in line with federal regulations, assisting with compliance-related data collection and reporting, and creating management solutions for compliance reporting needs, including time and effort reporting for federal grants
Monitoring submission activities for responsible conduct of research, including reviewing documents and IRB submissions for potential conflicts of interest and/or conflict of commitment as outlined in GovState policies
Assisting researchers with identifying relevant funding opportunities and developing grant proposals for submission to funding agencies
Serving as the point of contact for the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program, coordinating training modules, educating researchers on access and completion of training modules, tracking the training for the IRB and IACUC committees, and developing guidance materials for investigators
Staying informed about new or revised regulations and guidance issued by the DHHS Office for Human Subject Protections (OHRP), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the State of Illinois, and other regulatory agencies
Interacting with various GSU senior administration officials, deans, program chairs, principal investigators, other offices, and external sponsors in matters related to research compliance
Managing confidential documents and maintaining appropriate ethical standards for research
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in social sciences, health sciences, education, business, or a field related to the position, reflective of human subjects' research
Three years of professional-level work experience in managerial and/or business experience, including 4 years in a human subject's research-related position
Experience at a leadership level in interpretation and implementation of Code of Federal Regulations - CFR 45 and 36
Illinois residency required within 180 days of the hire date
Preferred
Five (5) years of professional-level work experience in managerial and/or business experience, including five (5) years in a human subjects' research-related position, such as those including clinical trials or medical research
Successful experience in project management, administration, and database management
Demonstrated exemplary customer service and public relation skills, diplomacy and tact working with faculty, students, staff, and the general public
CIP (Certified IRB Professional) or CIM (Certified IRB Manager) or able to obtain within one year of employment with support from the University
Solid Experience with IRB Management Systems and IRB Electronic Submittal Systems
Master's degree or higher in a field related to the position or represented at Governors State
