Principal Engineer, Mechanical Systems Leader

Responsibilities

Set the vision for the mechanical systems within the broader engine system and lead a cross-functional team of engineers from aerodynamic, thermal, mechanical, material, and manufacturing disciplines to execute analytical, design, and programmatic milestones as required from the business
Serve as the mechanical systems design subject matter expert as part of a diverse system design team. Ensure products and sub-systems meet overall requirements from a design perspective. Lead component and system trades from a module perspective. Coordinate with cross-functional team to optimize the overall system to meet product requirements
Adapt to the needs of the team and program to ensure execution of milestones and objectives. Execute design and analysis tasks across disciplines where needed in mechanical systems to support the broader team including performing static, dynamic vibration, shock, plasticity, interference, contact, and fatigue analysis
Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, performance, stress and life, additive manufacturing, materials and system analysis
Set test objectives and limits, instrumentation and test data requirements, and test planning to execute component validation
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Lead methodologies to develop new technologies to optimize the overall performance of a gas turbine with additive manufacturing. Participate in the research and development of technologies and methodologies associated with additive design to drive further capability in mechanical systems
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices
Work with suppliers to procure hardware and resolve producibility and quality issues

Required

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
At least 12+ years of experience in mechanical systems design
Strong understanding of design software tools as used in modelling (CAD) and analysis (FEM)
Experience working with gas turbines for aviation product applications from a mechanical and aero design perspective
Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Experience working with additive manufacturing technologies and familiarity with design for additive manufacturing principles
Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills
Proven self-starter and quick learner who can work in fast-paced cross-functional teams
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred

Graduate degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
