Intern - Materials Scientist

Responsibilities

Laboratory Work: Collaborate with scientists and engineers to set up, maintain, and operate laboratory equipment, make improvements on existing processes and develop novel fiber processing procedures for specialized use cases and scale-up, and ensure safe and efficient practices
Research Support: Assist in planning, constructing, and conducting experiments, literature reviews, and data analysis
Materials Testing: Participate in the testing and characterization of ceramic materials, including mechanical testing, and microstructural analysis
Analysis: Analyze experimental data and contribute to the interpretation of results, applying knowledge and education as well as working with software tools as needed
Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, data, and outcomes
Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, providing assistance and input in research projects while able to work independently when as needed
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with applicable regulations. Observe all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company

Required

Active enrollment and currently attending as an undergraduate student at a recognized college or university
Candidates will be required to commit to the 10 week program, two sessions available beginning June 1, 2026 or June 22, 2026
Ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately
Ability to follow general and detailed instructions as well as organizational policies and procedures
Basic communication and interpersonal skills to enable effective interface with internal professionals
Ability to work independently or in a team environment
Basic computer skills

Preferred

Lab and characterization experience preferred
Knowledge of high temperature materials or ceramic matrix composites desired
Material process, and/or material performance modeling experience a plus
Interest in additive manufacturing of advanced materials desired
3.0 cumulative GPA preferred
Interests in fields related to ceramics, composites, energy, and space
