Billing Exception Processing Supervisor
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for providing high-quality drinking water and managing wastewater and storm water for New Yorkers. They are seeking a Billing Exception Processing Supervisor to oversee staff in analyzing billing exceptions, ensuring accurate billing for water and sewer customers, and managing administrative tasks related to billing disputes and inquiries.

Responsibilities
Train and supervise staff engaged in the analysis of daily exceptions to the meter upload and billing processes to resolve issues affecting the accurate billing of water and sewer customers
Review records for accuracy of information and conformity with established policy and procedure
Perform complex calculations as necessary to determine the accuracy of charges
Prepare correspondence in response to customer inquiries, billing disputes and appeals of prior determinations, and explain and evaluate eligibility for BCS billing programs
Possess strong billing background, able to guide and train staff in billing and personnel matters
Handle timekeeping, disciplinary and evaluation matters
Provide supervision and train BEX staff in UMAX navigation, account research, resolving billing discrepancies and BCS business policies
Utilize various automated systems and outside agencies to acquire optimal billing adjustments
Handle all unit matters and interact with other unit staff working towards reconciliation and complex billing adjustments
Qualification
Required
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty
An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in '1' above
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in '1' above
Education and/or experience equivalent to '1', '2', or '3' above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in '1' above
Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in '1' above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½ years
