Assistant Resident Engineer
WSP is a leading engineering and professional services firm dedicated to serving local communities. They are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to supervise construction projects, manage field staff, and ensure compliance with codes and standards.

Responsibilities
Must be knowledgeable of various client construction specifications and contract management
Supervise, develop and train field staff and other construction support staff assigned to a project
Supervise and conduct the inspection and review of work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications
Responsible for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects
Verify and review project documentation for acceptance including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost reduction proposals, traffic control modifications, and others
Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors
Manage the construction management team, including sub-consultants
Review and make recommendations for contractors' project schedules and non-conforming work
Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors
Meeting with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in engineering-related field experience or equivalent
A minimum of 7 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience)
A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g. Caltrans)
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents
Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials
Effective oral and written communication skills
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Valid drivers' license
Preferred
Experience in local municipalities and/or Caltrans
Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields
Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California
Familiarity with e-Builder, MS Office, MS Project and other PC software used on design and construction projects
Bridge and highway construction inspection experience
