The State of Washington's Attorney General's Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Spokane Division. The selected attorney will provide legal representation and advice to various state departments and agencies, managing litigation and advising on regulatory matters.

Responsibilities

Provide client advice, litigation support and representation to the Department of Licensing by defending challenges to driver license laws or agency decisions suspending or revoking driver licenses for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or for violation of other driver license laws
Review for legal sufficiency charging documents and investigative records in designated regulatory programs (SOC Review Pool) as needed
Litigate cases before the Office of Administrative Hearings, as well as at superior and appellate courts
Represent the Employment Security Department by defending challenges to agency orders granting or denying unemployment benefits or Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits
Provide legal advice and representation to Eastern Washington University on student conduct and related matters, including representing EWU in a variety of forums including administrative tribunals, or in state or federal trial courts

Required

Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
Licensed to practice law in Washington state

Highly developed and mature interpersonal skills
Superior communication and listening skills

Enough litigation background to be comfortable handling any non-tort litigation needs of the clients
