Responsibilities

Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering
Work under guidance of experienced engineers on all aspects of substation design during internship
Participate in development of substation design components including: One-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications, physical layouts, sections/elevations, cable and conduit plans and details, ground grid, foundation, and structural plans, control enclosure, lightning protection, yard lighting plans, bills of materials
Learn and adhere to client standards and processes
Work independently or within a team to complete complex, challenging designs
Perform design calculations using industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC, etc.)
Assist senior engineers with QA/QC design checks
Possible participation in site visits
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in consulting engineering, electric utility industry, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred

Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection
Prior internship and/or related engineering experience is a plus
Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam will be strongly considered for this position
Familiarity with design, drafting or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc. as well as Microsoft Excel is beneficial
