Data Engineer

Responsibilities

Gather and clarify data requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical solutions
Design, develop, and maintain database schemas, stored procedures, and functions
Build and support ETL pipelines to transform data from multiple source systems into standardized formats
Perform data validation, QA/QC checks, and data quality monitoring
Support BI and reporting use cases by ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and performance
Integrate external data sources into existing data workflows
Troubleshoot and optimize SQL queries and ETL jobs for performance and reliability
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
Collaborate with analysts, developers, and product owners as part of a cross-functional team
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required

An active Public Trust or the ability to obtain a Public Trust is required for consideration
5+ years of recent, hands-on SQL experience, including stored procedures and functions
SQL Server (T-SQL) and/or Oracle (PL/SQL)
3+ years of ETL experience, with tools such as: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), AWS Glue, or similar ETL platforms
Experience supporting BI or reporting environments
Strong understanding of relational database design and data modeling
Familiarity with data quality, validation, and data management best practices
Experience working in Agile delivery environments
Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with stakeholders
Must meet Cherokee Federal pre-employment requirements

Preferred

Experience working in healthcare or government IT environments
Exposure to scripting or programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, or Bash
Any experience with API integrations
Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, or healthcare data standards
Experience mapping data to a Common Data Model (e.g., OMOP or similar)
General familiarity with AWS environments, including AWS GovCloud
Prior experience supporting DHA, DoD, or other federal customers
