Summer Law Clerk Intern

City of College Station is offering a 10-week paid summer law clerk position for law students who have completed some coursework from an ABA-accredited law school. The role involves assisting with various legal tasks including municipal law practice, criminal law, public information compliance, litigation management, and land use law.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assist in title review, preparation of deeds and related real estate documents, organization of documents for various transactions, proofreading of contracts, and researching legal issues related to these matters
Assist the City Attorney’s Office in municipal court prosecution of Class C misdemeanors, including preparation and review of complaints, assisting in processing plea bargains and similar matters, and conducting legal research
Assist in compliance with the Texas Public Information Act, including reviewing documents, redacting information, revising or preparing form responses, and researching matters related to the requests
Assist in researching matters related to the City’s police department including the investigation and prevention of criminal activity, including researching Fourth Amendment issues, criminal procedure and similar issues
Assist in maintaining litigation files, reviewing strategy, pleadings, preparation for depositions, responding to discovery requests, and other litigation matters
Assist in the review and tailoring of various forms to specific situations or requests, as well as reviewing and studying of maps, plats, and other land use related items
Assist the City Attorney’s Office in its representation of departments by proofreading and reviewing policies and operating procedures, and researching, reviewing and preparing documents related to various legal requirements on procurement
Attend meetings related to legal matters and perform other duties as assigned
