Design Review Architect

Responsibilities
Assist the Associate Director of Design in the design review and approval process for minor modifications, non-capital, and capital projects to ensure alignment with the university’s mission, vision, strategic goals, and initiatives
Work towards the enhancement of accessibility as it relates to the physical campus
Provides guidance related to campus design principles and the Design and Construction Standards Manual to design consultants and university user groups during project meetings and document reviews
Qualification
Required
Advanced degree in Architecture, or Bachelor of Architecture along with work experience equivalent to an advanced degree
Registration as a Professional Architect. Current registration in Virginia or demonstrated ability to be registered within 12 months of employment
A minimum of five years' experience as an architect
Understanding of Historic Preservation and The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation
Must have a valid driver's license
Proficiency with current office computer software including word processing and spreadsheets. Proficient in the use of design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)
Preferred
Experience working in a university setting
Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia (or other public agency) directives and higher education facilities requirements
Knowledge of preservation architecture. Proficiency in accessible design
Understanding of sustainability initiatives and experience working on LEED accredited projects
Familiarity with AIM project management software
