USAJOBS is seeking a High Voltage Electrician Leader at Nellis AFB. The primary purpose of this position is to lead a team in the installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electric power controlling equipment and distribution lines.

Responsibilities

Lead crews to effectively and efficiently install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair underground and overhead high and low voltage electrical distribution system lines and equipment
Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and maintains transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic systems, and other circuit elements found in substations
Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines
Troubleshoots distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment. Uses and maintains various hand and power tools and test equipment
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment

Position requires the ability to discern colors and contrast
This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
May be required to possess a valid operator's license in order to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites
AND/OR may be required to procure a government operator's permit or obtain a commercial driver's license to drive and/or operate special electrical repair trucks
Visually checks the work of contractors for compliance with contract specifications on new construction
Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays

Must obtain and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
This position is designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force civilian drug-testing program. As a mandatory requirement for employment in this TDP, the incumbent is to (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and (b) if required, submit to urinalysis testing. The selectee must sign statements acknowledging the position is identified as a TDP

Ability to lead and accomplish high voltage electrical operating tasks and responsibilities
Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair work needed for high voltage equipment and lines; and of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel circuits, line loading, line losses
Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, instruments used in shop, and trade practices; and of troubleshooting and locating defects and trouble spots
Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices and ability to operate safely
Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators, phase sticks and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, ampmeters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, dressing tools, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools
Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electronic schematics. Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines without more than normal supervision
