Deputy of Congressional Affairs

Responsibilities

Assists in the planning and implementation of programs and activities that are aimed at developing a greater awareness by the Congress, and their constituencies, of the mission, goals and programs of the Marshals Service and its associated law enforcement activities
Analyzes and evaluates mission requirements and assesses the impact of proposed legislation on ongoing and proposed programs
Develops and transmits informational materials to representatives and their staff to enhance understanding of USMS programs, responsibilities and prerogatives and to gain support for law enforcement initiatives

Required

Must pass a pre-employment security investigation and drug screening
This position is a Testing Designated Position and is subject to random drug testing
May be required to successfully complete a trial/probationary period
May be required to successfully complete a supervisory probationary period
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement
Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level)
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance
GS-14 TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 grade level
You may qualify at the GS-0301-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one year of full-time specialized experience at or equivalent to the grade GS-13 in the Federal Service performing duties which include the following: 1) Planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing Congressional and legislative programs; 2) Providing authoritative and substantive guidance on legislative issues; 3) Recommending strategies for Congressional interaction to management based on knowledge of the interests of the appropriate legislative audience; 4) Acting as liaison to management and/or government organizations concerning requests from Congress and legislation. 5) Direct experience working in the legislative branch for a Member of Congress or a congressional Committee
