Public Affairs Specialist (Intern)

The National Indian Gaming Commission is an independent federal regulatory Agency within the Department of Interior. They are seeking a Public Affairs Specialist Intern to support media relations, public engagement, and legislative affairs programs while gaining professional skills in federal government public affairs.

Responsibilities

Participate in and support planning, design, creation and publication/execution of print, social and video products in support of NIGC communications strategies
Write news and feature stories for NIGC
Produce community impact (human-interest) stories for Vital Voices series
Research and draft press releases, media advisories, and media pitches
Assist with planning and coordinating tradeshow and conference attendance
Research, coordinate, and create prep packets to support Commission travel and/or media engagements
Research information for responses to inquiries from the media and the general public
Assist with NIGC website (NIGC.gov) and Intranet (SharePoint) maintenance and content updates (508 compliance review, HTML/PDF conversion, content review/revision, data currency)
Assist with developing social media calendar and drafting content for social channel posts
Collect metrics and assist with initial analysis and recommendations for improving communications to reach audiences and stakeholders
Assist with and participate in legislative and intergovernmental affairs projects and outreach events
Assist with daily office operations, including document updating and proofing, data entry and records management tasks

Required

Must be a U.S. Citizen
You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation/determination
You will be required to have federal payments made by Direct Deposit
You must submit ALL required documents and a completed questionnaire
Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service system, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law
Must be a student above high school level to apply
All applicants are required to pass a background check to begin the program
