SLEEP LAB TECH-REG

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is seeking a Sleep Lab Technician to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. The role involves performing polysomnography, patient care, and education, while ensuring high-quality data collection and patient safety during testing.

Responsibilities

Collect patient sleep history and schedule for appropriate testing. Identify and address special needs of individual patients
Perform diagnostic, therapeutic polysomnography or other tests for sleep disorders following established protocols. Ensure collection of appropriate data by obtaining high quality data. Make necessary adjustments to electrodes, sensors, or filter/amplifier settings to ensure data is artifact free
Implement appropriate interventions during testing, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic interventions(continuous and bilevel positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
Document routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of results
Score sleep/wakes stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Score clinical events (respiratory events, cardiac events, arousals, etc.) according to sleep center established standards
Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting, provide education regarding use of PAP equipment, and expected outcomes to patients and family
Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning, sterilization, and assembly of PAP equipment
Communicate with support staff and other hospital departments in order to maximize the efficiency of non-clinical services
Assume general responsibility for positive client relationships and other efforts to meet community needs

Required

Certification by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, maintain certification through continuing education activities, as required by the BRPT
Maintain current BCLS certification
Minimum of 6 months clinical diagnostic experience
Complete education requirements prerequisite to registry exam as outlined by the BRPT. Successful completion of one of 4 clinical pathways for eligibility to attempt RPSGT exam
Demonstrate ability to work independently with patients in a diagnostic setting
Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy
Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills
Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient served, as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the position
