Responsibilities

Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc
Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts
Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality
Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
Ability to read and interpret CMM data and prints
Programs CNC machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Required

1 to 3 years of experience in high volume precision machining environment
Experience with making tool path offsets
General understanding of manufacturing processes and thorough knowledge of lathe tooling/programming
Recognize tool paths by interpreting the program (G and M codes)
Machine set-ups and change-overs
Ability to train associates on machining standards
Troubleshoot daily production problems through root cause analysis techniques as they occur
Develop machining processes for new products
Coordinate engineering changes
Participate in continuous improvement processes
Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards
Adhere to Corporate policies and procedures
Ability to work side by side with outside vendors in an effort to reduce production and tooling costs
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk, bend, use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms
The employee must be able to push/pull with force estimated at 100 pounds to maneuver parts into place
Grip force required up to 100 pounds
The employee is occasionally required to sit
The employee must be able to enter, egress and traverse areas inside and outside of machinery, and must be able to climb ladders for purposes of inspection
Position require climbing and balancing around and on top of machines while simultaneously using various hand tools
The employee must have full range of motion necessary for moving in and out of all positions
Employee must have good sensation essential to gauge heat exposure when working around hot equipment, dies or furnaces
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 more pounds
This position works with safety critical products, therefore are required to have the ability to differentiate colors that are critical to job performance
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat in the plant environment
The noise level ranges from low (office environment) to moderate (general plant environment) to high (near machines)
