Responsibilities

Responsible for the effective conduct of all University flight lab courses
Directly supervises Assistant Flight Training Manager(s) and staff flight instructors in the administration of these courses
Serves as a liaison to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) related to flight training operations
Performs stage checks, end-of-course checks, flight instructor upgrades, and ground training for flights, as required
Develops, manages, and updates training course outlines
Teaches Flight Instructor Fundamentals course; assignment to teach this course may vary by term based on departmental needs
Coordinates with the Director of Aerospace – Airport Operations to determine and forecast the current and future needs of the Flight Training Program
Performs administrative tasks related to flight training operations and other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Aerospace, or related field
Bachelor's degree in a non-aviation field with a strong background in flight training may be considered
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in providing flight instruction to primary and advanced students, with at least two (2) years of management experience in flight training
Flight experience meeting the requirements of 14 CFR 141.35(b)–(d) for Chief Instructor
FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (ASEL, AMEL, Instrument-Airplane)
FAA Flight Instructor Certificate (ASE, AME, Instrument-Airplane)
Current 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate
Cover Letter, Resume, and Completed Qualification and Experience Form (see below) required

Preferred

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a Part 141 flight training environment
At least 50 hours PIC in Diamond DA40 aircraft
Master's degree in aviation-related field
FAA Tailwheel Endorsement
