Welding Engineer- Additive Manufacturing

Responsibilities
Strong theoretical understanding of metallurgy, microstructure, phase transformations, fusion welding processes, and materials behavior — especially for both ferrous and non-ferrous alloys
Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes (e.g., powder-bed fusion, directed energy deposition), including powder handling, build parameter selection, post-processing, heat treatment, and material qualification
Experience or coursework in process development, materials testing / characterization, microstructural analysis, non-destructive testing (NDT), mechanical testing
Ability to produce clear, detailed technical documentation (procedures, process specs, build plans, test reports, inspection records)
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate across disciplines (design, manufacturing, QA, inspection, R&D)
Hands-on experience in welding or AM operations; knowledge of powder metallurgy, metallurgy of welds and AM builds, post-build heat treatment, and quality assurance / inspection practices
Experience with CAD / CAM or process-planning software, build-simulation tools, specimen testing, or materials research
Good communication skills and ability to work with both engineering and production teams
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Materials Science & Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with materials emphasis, or equivalent
