The Cardiac Sonographer will perform cardiac ultrasounds and assist in cardiac testing for adult and geriatric populations, working under the supervision of medical professionals to ensure optimal patient care and accurate diagnostic information.

Responsibilities

Within the scope of practice, training, and competency, assist the cardiologist with transesophageal echocardiograms for the adult and geriatric patient

Assist the cardiologist or Cardiovascular Services APRN with non-invasive pharmacological or exercise stress testing

Use independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care

Provide an accurate summary of findings to the physician to aid in patient diagnosis and management using standardized measuring and reporting criteria

Compose preliminary echo reports that accurately reflect the content and results of the study according to the Intersociety Accreditation Commission for Echocardiography (ICAEL) standards

Complete pre-procedure intake based on patient/family interview, examination, and review of clinical data; communicate patient status and patient needs to physician and other team members

Communicate appropriate patient information effectively and efficiently within the health care team

Assist in other areas of cardiovascular services, as needed

Perform department duties independently including, but not limited to, equipment checks, stocking of supplies and maintaining supply par levels

Participate in the care, cleaning, and preventative maintenance of equipment; collaborate with manufacturers and biomedical engineering to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions

Partake in and support quality improvement; collect accurate data for certifying agencies

Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Completion of an accredited Ultrasound program or Completion of an allied health profession with clinical experience specific to cardiac ultrasound preferred

Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Certification, Required

An appropriate credential in echocardiography from the ARDMS, CCI or CARDUP

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS); Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 year of eligibility

Must obtain BLS within sixty (60) days of hire required

Incumbent must remain current on required CME credit

Preferred

A minimum of one year of cardiovascular sonography experience, which may include practicum or clinical experience from an echocardiology program, preferred
