Lexsy is an AI-native law firm building predictive legal intelligence. As a Staff Engineer, you will own core architectural decisions and lead complex execution to establish technical standards for AI-powered legal systems.

End-to-end problem ownership
The right technical approach
Whether AI is appropriate — or not
Architecture and tooling choices
Scope, timelines, and team allocation
Risks, edge cases, and trade-offs
AI judgment & discretion
Partner with product to decide when AI adds value vs. when deterministic systems are safer
Anticipate and mitigate common LLM failure modes (hallucinations, brittleness, edge cases)
Apply industry-standard patterns for reliability, validation, and human-in-the-loop systems
Engineering leadership & execution
You’ll lead major initiatives and guide engineers through them
Working closely with junior engineers, product leads, and legal domain experts
Translating legal workflows into scalable, maintainable systems
Setting and enforcing high standards for code quality, architecture, and documentation
Making decisions independently — without needing constant oversight
Ship fast, without cutting corners
Rapid prototyping using LLMs and agents
Tight execution cycles and fast feedback loops
A strong bias toward shipping — while protecting system integrity and long-term maintainability
Automated legal workflows (e.g., generating documents for a company’s first priced Series Seed round)
API integrations with platforms like Slack, Carta, and internal data sources
Event-driven systems and scrapers to detect real-time legal signals (e.g., copyright violations)

Required

5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience
1+ year hands-on building with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face ecosystem)
Strong systems design and architectural thinking
Experience deploying and scaling systems on AWS or similar cloud platforms
High code quality standards; ability to design APIs and interfaces others can build on
Experience mentoring or managing junior engineers
Comfort operating in fast-moving startup environments

Preferred

Experience with legal or compliance-driven workflows
Integrations with HR systems, billing, cap tables, or data rooms
Availability in US or Canada time zones
