Assistant Research Professor, SHINElab within the Department of Architectural Engineering
Penn State University is inviting applications for an Assistant Research Professor position within the SHINElab, focusing on building system research and data-driven methods. The successful candidate will contribute to developing sustainable and resilient building solutions while mentoring graduate students and collaborating across disciplines.

Responsibilities
Building system laboratory testing – including the design, setup, and execution of experimental studies involving building performance and control systems
Coding and AI/machine learning strategy development – with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate data-driven or AI-based strategies
Graduate student mentorship – providing technical and professional guidance to graduate research assistants while fostering an inclusive and collaborative research environment
Leading research on emerging technologies, publishing and presenting research findings, mentoring graduate students, and contributing to proposal development and reporting to project sponsors
Serving as a member of the SHINElab leadership team
Qualification
Required
Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
Expertise and experience in building system laboratory testing – including the design, setup, and execution of experimental studies involving building performance and control systems
Expertise and experience in coding and AI/machine learning strategy development – with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate data-driven or AI-based strategies
Graduate student mentorship – providing technical and professional guidance to graduate research assistants while fostering an inclusive and collaborative research environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred
Experience with human subject data
