Managing Editor, Public Opinion Quarterly

The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) is seeking a Managing Editor for the Public Opinion Quarterly journal. This role involves overseeing the editorial workflow, ensuring high-quality scholarly content, and managing communications with authors and reviewers.

Responsibilities

Screen submissions for scope, formatting, and ethical compliance
Assign manuscripts to Associate Editors
Track the process throughout the peer review and revision stages
Work with the POQ Editors and Associate Editors to manage the peer review process and coordinate with Editors on more complex cases
Maintain records of editorial decisions and reviewer reports
Respond to author queries about submissions, revisions, or technical issues
Provide clear feedback and guidance throughout the review and production process
Work with our publisher, Oxford University Press, and their subcontractors to move accepted manuscripts to publication in a timely manner
Ensure the published content aligns with POQ’s scope and scholarly standards
Monitor journal metrics and participate in editorial team discussions as required
Train new editorial team members in manuscript processing and journal workflow
Oversee public promotion of POQ and social media posts

Qualification

Required

Excellent project/time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
The ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
The ability to apply a stylesheet and the Chicago Manual of Style to scientific papers
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred

Experience with copyediting and a commercial manuscript management system preferred but not required
