SLR Consulting is seeking a full-time Principal/Senior Principal Engineer with over 20 years of tailings engineering experience to join our Mine Waste Engineering (MWE) team. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing a strong team, fostering a collaborative work environment, and driving the growth and success of the group.

Responsibilities

Audit, review, design, construction, and remediation of tailings structures at all stages of the projects. This includes pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction, operational and closure stages

Undertaking desk-based studies utilizing data and information from a variety of sources

Undertaking due diligence reviews

Undertake Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs) and Dam Safety Inspections (DSIs)

Project management and co-ordination

Report and proposal writing

Mentorship of employees

Travel to sites

Be client facing and able to identify and develop new opportunities

Provide clear, concise business-focused findings, recommendations and options regarding client deliverables

Collaborate in a team atmosphere to plan and meet timelines and requirements along with budget goal

Required

Over 20 years of tailings engineering experience

Experience in the design, construction, operations and monitoring of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)

Engineer of Record (EOR) or Deputy EOR for a TSF

Active clients and expertise in client management

Internal staff management

Management of multiple project efforts and project teams

Business development experience

Excellent communication skills

Writing skills that include the ability to review and provide feedback on proposals, reports, and other technical documents

Previous experience in design, construction, and surveillance of Tailings Storage Facilities with specific experience in serving as EOR or Deputy EOR

Minimum of 15 years of tailings experience

Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the US and/or Canada, or immediately eligible for registration

Passion for technical excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement

Ability to review reports and carry out audits

Ability to manage people, and technical teams and mentor junior staff

Work with multidisciplinary teams on a variety of projects within the mining sector

Demonstrated Project Management skills including scheduling and budgeting

Ability to lead, train and mentor junior staff

Working familiarity with GISTM, CDA, USSD and ICOLD

Demonstrated ability in business development to build a backlog of work to support a project technical team dedicated to tailings engineering

Willing to travel by car and airplane including overnight travel for international or domestic project

Preferred

M.Sc. in a related Engineering field of study would be advantageous
