Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of a variety of light and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations
Locate mechanical trouble, and repair and overhaul automotive, grounds maintenance and construction equipment
Assist in the inspection and location of mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, tractors, power shovels, mowers, motor graders, loaders, rollers, and other types of mechanical equipment used in public works maintenance, grounds maintenance, and construction
Make major and minor mechanical repairs, including general overhauls; tear down, replace and reassemble transmissions and differentials, hydraulic and electrical systems; relines and adjusts brakes; rebuilds, sharpens mower cutting units; do safety inspections of golf carts; change and repair tires; weld; keep maintenance records and order repair parts; operate a truck and other motorized equipment as required
Inspect, lubricate, service and locate mechanical defects in trucks, tractors, mowers, motor graders, loaders, rollers, and other types of mechanical equipment used in construction, grounds maintenance and public works; make major and minor mechanical repairs, including general overhauls; tear down, replace and reassemble mechanical assemblies; repair hydraulic and electrical systems; replace and adjust brakes on automobiles, trucks and equipment, overhaul and sharpen mower cutting units; do safety inspections on golf carts, heavy trucks, cranes and electrical equipment; change and repair tires; weld and fabricate steel components; operate trucks and other motorized equipment; keep maintenance records and order repair parts
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school or a GED certificate and one year of journey worker experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of automotive and construction equipment, including experience in arc and gas welding for Equipment Mechanic I
Graduation from high school or a GED certificate and three years experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of automotive and construction equipment, including arc and gas welding for Equipment Mechanic II
A valid driver's license is required at the time of application
A valid CALIFORNIA driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment
Possession of a Class A CALIFORNIA driver's license is required by the end of the six month probationary period
Certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or other recognized certifications will be required when the certification is required for performance of job duties
