Power Applications Test Engineer

The Power Applications Test Engineer will execute advanced power characterization and validation testing for next-generation power interconnect products, collaborating closely with engineering teams to provide actionable data for product development and qualification.

Responsibilities
Execute electrical, thermal, and mechanical test methods relevant to high-current interconnects, including:
Current-carrying capability (CCC)
Temperature rise / delta-T measurements
Power loss and efficiency analysis
Voltage drop and contact resistance evaluations
Thermal imaging, mapping, and hotspot identification
Short-term and long-term reliability testing
Conduct failure analysis and root-cause investigations on power products under evaluation
Perform Product Qualification (PQ) testing per customer, industry, and internal standards
Prepare and execute qualification test plans and schedules
Support pre-compliance evaluation for UL, IEC, and other regulatory/industry requirements
Document all results through detailed engineering reports
Operate high-current test racks, programmable power supplies, thermal chambers, DAQ systems, power analyzers, and instrumentation
Develop custom fixtures, tooling, and thermal/electrical setups when required
Assist in expanding the Power Application Center’s capabilities, including new test protocols, automation, and upgraded equipment
Collect, analyze, and validate test data with high accuracy
Prepare comprehensive test reports with conclusions, graphs, and data summaries
Provide data-driven recommendations to product engineering, design teams, and customers
Work closely with Business Unit engineering teams to support NPI/NPD
Support customer meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions
Collaborate with GES labs (Product Test Lab, Applications Lab, Metallurgy Lab, etc.) to ensure full qualification support
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
2–5+ years of experience in product testing, validation, or power electronics
Strong hands-on background with power testing equipment (power supplies, electronic loads, DAQ systems, oscilloscopes, thermal measurement tools)
Experience with current-carrying capability tests, thermal rise measurements, or high-current interconnects
Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and thermal/electrical models
Strong analytical, data-driven problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and cross-team collaboration
Preferred
Experience with connector testing, power interconnects, or high-current components
Familiarity with UL 1977, IEC 60512, IPC standards, or customer qualification standards
Experience with thermal imaging systems (FLIR), laser thermometers, and environmental chambers
Experience with automated test systems or LabVIEW/Python automation
Prior experience in a testing laboratory environment
