Responsibilities
Directs, instructs, schedules, reviews, and evaluates the work activities of subordinate personnel and provides training on the proper use of light/heavy equipment, trucks, power equipment, and materials used in the construction, maintenance and repair of street/drainage facilities
Monitors and directs the construction, repair and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, screening walls, drainage ways, drainage pipes, bridges, box culverts and retaining walls, according to city standard details
Maintains records of work performed, materials used, and labor costs for work management system; coordinates repair and maintenance of equipment
Works with Utility Operations personnel to coordinate and schedule concrete repairs resulting from water main breaks and utility line replacements. Prepares and provides estimates for construction projects
Investigates citizens' complaints and takes/recommends appropriate action
Reviews work sites to ensure safety standards and division, and city procedures are enforced
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential
Responsible for assisting in the supervision of emergency operations crews during overnight, weekend, and twelve-hour shifts
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of: Construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, and screening walls, drainage ways, drainage pipe, bridges, box culverts and retaining walls; materials used in repair and maintenance functions; city and departmental policies and procedures; safety standards
Skill in: Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; completing construction, maintenance and repair functions of Street/Drainage facilities; reading and interpreting blueprints and city's standard details
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, screening walls, drainage ways, box culverts, bridges, drainage pipes and retaining walls involving a wide variety of equipment, including one (1) year of supervisory experience
Licenses and Certifications: Texas Commercial driver's license (prior to employment)
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check
