Responsibilities
Build and manage a US fungal strain library aligned with taxonomic and geographic priorities
Plan and conduct fungal collection trips across diverse ecosystems in the US and internationally
Apply and develop novel culturing methodologies to maximize species diversity
Perform molecular identification techniques (DNA extraction, PCR amplification, DNA barcoding)
Oversee laboratory and field operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols
Collaborate with the wider mycology team on research and data management
Qualification
Required
Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Mycology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, or related field
Hands-on experience in fungal collection, identification, and culturing
Strong knowledge of fungal biology and genetics, including molecular techniques
Leadership and team management experience
Excellent organizational skills for planning and executing field expeditions
Valid US driving license and willingness to travel
Preferred
Knowledge of cryopreservation, lyophilisation, and media optimization
Experience designing novel culturing methods
Project and budget management skills
Familiarity with fungal databases and data analysis
