Senior HVDC Mechanical System Design Engineer
GE Vernova is focused on enabling the Energy Transition through advanced HVDC converter mechanical and structural design. The Senior Engineer will lead R&D programs in the Grid Solutions business, contributing to the development of technologies that will drive impactful products for customers and society.

Responsibilities
Lead diverse teams as well contribute individually at a intermediate expertise level in the development and application of advanced technology solutions to GE Vernova products and services using analytics, modeling, simulations and advanced testing methods
Validate performance of developed solutions through simulations, lab-scale and full prototype scale testing
Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications
Ensure that solutions adopted are both technically appropriate and that GE Vernova has freedom to utilize these solutions
Transfer technology to engineering teams in GE Vernova to be included in next generation products and services
Stay current with advances in system technologies to seek out new ideas and applications
Work in a team environment with colleagues across GE Vernova including other GE Grid Solutions businesses, Advanced Research Center and partners from industry, academia, and government agencies
Qualification
Required
Doctorate degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in design, development, testing and validation of mechanical system OR Master's degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in design, development and validation of mechanical systems
A minimum of 5 years of experience in building full scale equipment or hardware prototype for testing and validation of complex physical systems including HVDC converter valves, high voltage substations equipment, generation plants, industrial plants, or transportation systems
A minimum of 5 years of experience with mechanical design simulation tools including 3D modeling, mechanical forces and stress analysis
Proficiency in Ansys, SolidWorks, Catia, Abaqus, AutoCAD, MATLAB, Mathcad, Python or similar engineering software
Strong background in power hardware components design (converter valves, power modules, busbars, reactors, transformers, metallic supporting structure, etc.)
Relevant experience in HVDC systems including specifying, designing, testing or commissioning HVDC stations components including power transformers, reactors, filters, converter valves, cooling plants
Familiar with stress calculations including thermal, vibration, seismic stress analysis
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
Preferred
Relevant experience in designing layout of HVDC converter valve hall or metallic structure of HVDC converters
More than 5 years of experience in designing the packaging layout of high power converters modules or metallic supporting structure of power converters components
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills
