Responsibilities

Develop novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required to achieve and maintain line specific breeding programs
Design and direct ELISA testing for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin, to include oversight of technicians performing testing, review and interpretation of results, as it relates to breeding protocols
Design and develop dose escalation studies involving live specimens under controlled surroundings and handle administration of drug treatments in accordance with IACUC protocols
Collect, dissect, examine and interpret results of murine tissue and organ harvest
Develop, organize and conduct FLOW analysis and data interpretation
Provide intellectual input as to cloning strategies utilized in generation of unique plasmids and adenovector viruses. Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria
Develop and maintain IBC and IACUC protocol submissions, revisions and amendments
Create novel organization strategy for maintenance of sample inventory for multiple animal colonies, to include conferring/collaborating with UF Information Technology in evaluating new database systems, create or modify web-based tools and test potentially new software to provide statistical and computational tools for development of statistics models
Manage laboratory teams, monitor and direct scientific efforts relating to murine colonies
Review laboratory team reports and proposals for accuracy and adherence to IACUC policies and regulations
Supervise other scientists, undergraduate students, and volunteers in the laboratory
Coordinate experiments involving live animals that will undergo exposures, treatment and procedures in collaboration with other research groups on campus
Monitor experiments involving live animals and document weekly parameters related to exposure / treatment delivery, animal weight and well-being
Interact and coordinate with off-campus collaborators samples shipments, common on-line meetings, and in-person visits
Prepare a quarterly report on the performance of the scientists, students, and volunteers under direct supervision

Required

Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience or Master's degree in biology or a related field with five year of experience
Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience

5-10 years bench experience in a research laboratory setting
