Senior Communications Manager - Los Angeles, CA

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Manager to work in their Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters. The senior manager will support a cohesive communications program addressing the needs of various stakeholders and will be responsible for developing and coordinating internal and external messaging across the affiliate.

Responsibilities

Partner with Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to manage agency-wide editorial calendar
Coordinate frontline communicators to facilitate message alignment
Manage social media strategy and agency presence across multiple channels
Manage a media relations strategy that reaches across LA’s diverse communities to convey the impact of PPLA’s education, advocacy and health care programs
Foster positive relationships with reporters, write press releases, pitches and op-eds
Manage and maintain media distribution lists
Create and support the development of assets used by external-facing teams across the agency, including fact sheets and talking points
In collaboration with CCO, develop internal messaging across the agency
Maintain knowledge of the latest messaging research relevant to PPLA’s programs
Lead message training for key audiences, including staff and spokespeople
Support internal communications around key agency initiatives
Comply with PPLA’s Standards of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards to act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
Minimum of five (5) years' experience managing communications at a health care organization required
Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or projects
Experience with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethics
Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as required
Ability and willingness to travel within Los Angeles County
Reliable means of transportation for onsite and off-site work

Preferred

Experience working alongside and partnering with licensed health care providers preferably in a reproductive health care setting
