Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer (Robotics & Electromechanical Systems)
Tutor Intelligence is a hands-on robotics company that designs and deploys real robots for warehouses. The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will design robotic hardware and manage the transition from prototype to production, ensuring quality and reliability in manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
Work with Hardware Design Engineering on designing the next-generation mobile robot
Design fixtures, jigs, assembly tools, test setups, and production hardware — then build and use them
Work hands-on with robots: assembly, alignment, cable routing, mechanical tuning, and troubleshooting
Own problems end-to-end: root cause → design change → ECO → production fix
Own major portions of the NPI process from prototype → pilot → production → field deployment
Take designs from “works on the bench” to “runs 24/7 in customer warehouses”
Improve parts for DFM/DFA, tolerance robustness, reliability, and scalability
Create and maintain BOMs, drawings, MBOM/EBOM, and configuration control in PLM
Write clear, production-ready work instructions and verify them on the floor
Partner closely with Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Test, and Field teams to close feedback loops
Improve the factory itself: layouts, workflows, takt time, repeatability, and error-proofing
Build fast, test fast, break things responsibly, and iterate in the real world
Qualification
Required
Have a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
Have 2+ years in robotics, automation, electromechanical systems, or manufacturing environments
Are strong in SolidWorks or Onshape (assemblies, drawings, real-world design)
Have taken hardware through prototype → pilot → production → deployment
Can design fixtures, brackets, housings, and test equipment — and see them through to build
Understand GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, fasteners, materials, machining, and structural mechanics
Enjoy debugging mechanical problems: alignment, wear, preload, vibration, fatigue, tolerances
Are comfortable working on the floor with technicians and operators, not just reviewing slides
Care deeply about ownership, quality, and continuous improvement
Preferred
CNC machining or manual mill/lathe
Shop tools: drill press, tapping, fabrication, modifying parts when they don't fit
PCBA packaging and electromechanical enclosure design
Cable management and pneumatic routing
Building or validating robotic/automation cells
EVT/DVT/PVT, FAIs, or pilot builds
