Automation Engineer III

Responsibilities

Manage and implement controls, electrical, & software design from project concept to installation, including: machine concepting, risk assessment and proof-of-principle, component selection & sourcing, electrical layout, panel building and machine wiring, software design/programming, mechanical design and assembly, HMI creation and maintenance, debug of hardware/software, acceptance testing & safety, and installation/integration into production
System documentation throughout the project concept and installation
Evaluate existing systems and provide engineering level support to maintenance and production
Maintain systems knowledge of existing off-the-shelf and custom equipment
Troubleshoot difficult technical problems on a variety of equipment
Implement long-term upgrade solutions for obsolete equipment, components & software
Actively support improvement efforts and work with a continuous improvement mindset
Other duties assigned as required

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering field (Electrical, Controls, Computer Science, Mechatronic, Automation or related field); master's degree in Engineering or related technical field helpful
Minimum 5 years of related experience, preferably with a focus on development of custom automation control solutions
Demonstrate a strong general understanding of electro-mechanical, and automated systems
Demonstrate CAD modeling/design experience
Must be able to follow a disciplined and detailed approach to project management, design process and be able to manage multiple parallel projects with varying scopes and deadlines
Demonstrate strong collaborative communication and leadership skills
Must be able to draw on and adapt prior knowledge and experience to initiate effective solutions
Must be adaptive to change and willing to support a variety of work assignments

Knowledge of the following specific brands a plus: Control Systems: Delta Tau (Omron), Beckhoff; Communication: Ethercat, Ethernet, RS232; Software: Visual Studio, Visio, C++, HTML; Motion Control: Servo, Stepper, Linear; Vision: Keyence, Beckhoff; Safety: Keyence, Beckhoff, Banner; Robots: Epson, Universal, Mecademic; Sensors: Keyence, SMC, Turck; CAD: SolidWorks
