REGIONAL PARK MANAGER I

City and County of Honolulu is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as a Regional Park Manager I. This position oversees operations at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park, ensuring the park’s maintenance, safety, and enjoyment for the community while leading staff and coordinating diverse recreational programs and events.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate and supervise subordinates in the maintenance and repair of the playing fields, landscaping, tennis courts, archery range, and building facilities
Manage all aspects of the utilization of the park including the administering of rules and regulations, scheduling and permits, promotional activities and administration of concession contracts
Prepare an annual operating budget request and administer the budget as allotted
Recruit, interview and select employees
Develop a training program for new employees as well as in-service training to keep all employees abreast of developments in grounds and facilities maintenance, turf management, and other horticultural and arboricultural practices
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, hospitality management, horticulture, agronomy, botany, landscape architecture, or related field
Three (3) years of experience in managing the overall operation of a major park (e.g., district park), group of parks (e.g., recreation complex), or similar facility
Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management, public relations, and supervision
Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques and methods of turf management
Knowledge of budget preparation, basic accounting and record-keeping
Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinate staff
Ability to develop recreational policies, procedures, rules and regulations
Ability to plan and establish a grounds beautification and maintenance program
Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, representatives of other departments, community groups, and the general public
Ability to prepare cost estimates and prepare and justify budgets
Ability to issue clear and concise oral and written instructions
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license
