Senior Managing Director of Development - School of Science and Engineering, UMKC Foundation
The University of Missouri-Kansas City is seeking a Senior Managing Director of Development for the School of Science and Engineering. This role oversees fundraising activities, manages donor relationships, and collaborates with leadership to implement strategic plans for major gifts.

Responsibilities
Facilitating active relationships with assigned prospects while endeavoring to match UMKC’s funding needs with prospects’ interests
Leading by example in personal work with donors; identification, cultivation and qualification of prospects; solicitation and closing of major gifts sufficient to meet or exceed individual and team goals set annually
Working with prospect research staff to evaluate and prioritize donor prospects and maintain a balanced portfolio and develop written strategies, including target amounts and target dates on all actively managed prospects
Collaborating with the Leadership Team to develop and implement an overall strategic plan for the solicitation of major gifts to meet the Foundation’s goals
Leading, mentoring and supervising a Director of Development for the School of Science and Engineering
Engages with the Director of Development to create a visionary strategic plan for the School and to inspire, motivate, and provide engaging leadership opportunities for the director of development
Evaluates director’s productivity and effectiveness based on metrics and goals; engages in frequent interaction with School of Science and Engineering and Foundation staff, providing clear direction and constructive feedback, as well as coaching and mentoring
Serves as the School’s expert on planned giving; works closely with Foundation’s staff to gain knowledge and expertise in gift planning
Works with direct report to establish and meet individual and team goals; conducts performance evaluations annually
Promotes and ensures a team dynamic within the Foundation, including promotion of information sharing, best practices, and creative and innovative techniques that lead to fundraising success
Fosters a collaborative dynamic with other schools and colleges and the UMKC Advancement staff
Works closely and collaboratively with UMKC, Foundation and Advancement operations staff to assure operational needs are met and support fundraising efforts and promote donor satisfaction
Is a leader by proactively recommending changes in policies, systems and procedures to enhance efficiency and productivity that could assist in fundraising performance
Meets with Dean and Development Director to further fundraising performance and make suggestions and encourage partnership in meeting objectives and goals
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree
At least six years of development experience
Experience in fundraising management
Experience in major gift solicitations
Experience in planned gift solicitations in the higher education environment
Knowledge and understanding of corporate and foundation donors
Evidence of having achieved successful results in previous positions
Experience building and executing campaigns
Knowledge of higher education and familiarity with the characteristics of a comprehensive university
Knowledge of major gifts moves management
Knowledge of planned giving vehicles
Knowledge of annual giving
Knowledge of corporate and foundation granting
Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, including goal-setting, program development, implementation and evaluation
Knowledge of principles and practices of budget development and administration
Knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures related to development activities
Techniques for managing and motivating a variety of individuals, in person and over the telephone
Principles and techniques of preparing effective written materials
Skill in developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
Skill in leadership, planning, organizing and directing the work of others
Ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, and effectively with varied internal and external constituencies
Ability to handle tension and stress in a positive manner
A valid U.S. driver's license
Preferred
Preferred experience includes fundraising management, major gift solicitations and planned gift solicitations in the higher education environment
