Financial Analyst Intermediate

The Center for Public Partnerships & Research at the University of Kansas is seeking a Financial Analyst Intermediate to support financial reconciliation, analysis, and reporting. This role involves managing the general ledger, preparing financial statements, and collaborating with various departments to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.

Responsibilities

Work with CFO and Associate Director of Research Financial Reporting in the preparation of quarterly financial statements as well as the auditable year-end financial statements, including drafting financial statements and footnotes included within. Analyze accounts and create journals for quarter and year-end closing
Support internal and external audit processes by researching technical accounting issues, documenting conclusions, and ensuring compliance and accuracy
Research, interpret and make determinations on contracts related to revenue recognition. Maintain Filemaker Pro database used for contract analysis in support of preparing the financial statements
Develop and prepare ad-hoc reports and financial analyses, analyzing reporting and operating metrics to identify issues and recommend enhancements to the clarity and reliability of financial reporting
Support and drive continuous improvement of financial reporting processes and capabilities, while ensuring compliance with applicable financial governance and internal control frameworks
Lead the management of monthly accounting periods to ensure that period-end closing procedures are completed accurately
Own and perform monthly account reconciliations to ensure the integrity of the general ledger. Monitor and run reports to verify ending account balances. When supporting or tracking documentation does not align with general ledger balances, analyze variances to identify discrepancies and determine appropriate resolutions
Develop reports to communicate issues to relevant University staff, including queries and system-generated reports to audit transaction accuracy, verify proper coding in the general ledger and resolve discrepancies or unmatched entries within the account codes
Collaborate with the Cash Management team on both routine operations and special projects
Interpret and analyze intercompany activities for accuracy, ensuring that intercompany transactions for the current period are complete and property recorded in the general ledger
Create and post journal entries to offset or clear intercompany balances and accurately record cash in the general ledger
Assist with special accounting projects and analyses within Financial Services as assigned by management
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reviewing professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and engaging professional organizations
Ensure accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles and comply with the Center’s accounting policies and practices

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of recent related accounting and/or finance experience OR High School diploma and five (5) years of related experience
Experience in financial analysis, modeling and forecasting experience as outlined in application materials
Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials and work history
Three (3) years of computer experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and accounting software
Previous work experience that required working independently as evidenced by application materials

Preferred

Five (5) years of progressively responsible budget, finance, and/or accounting experience
Fund accounting experience as outlined in application materials
Five (5) years of experience as high level user of MS Excel and database management including creating/development, use of formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation and charts
Experience working with U.S. GAAP as evidenced in application materials
Experience working with university research, State of Kansas and sponsored agreement regulations as shown in application materials
Experience with Oracle Financials in the Cloud and Oracle Analytics in the Cloud as evidenced in application materials
Experience with Filemaker Pro as shown in application materials
Experience that required problem solving as evidenced in application materials
