Assistant City Attorney IV (NC) - Civil Division
The City of Phoenix Law Department is seeking an Assistant City Attorney IV for the Litigation Section to represent and advise various City departments and employees in litigation matters in both federal and state court. The ideal candidate will handle multiple litigation cases, present cases to the City's Claims Committee and City Council, and work independently while meeting the needs of the City.

Responsibilities
Represent and advise various City departments and employees in litigation matters in both federal and state court from pre-litigation claims through appeals, including investigation, discovery and discovery disputes, dispositive motions, mediations and settlement conferences, pre-trial motions, arbitrations, jury trials, and appeals
Be primarily responsible for multiple litigation cases at a time
Periodically present cases to the City's Claims Committee and the City Council
Meet the needs of the City, including handling all court obligations, City Council or City management meetings, and other in-office obligations
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor from an accredited school of law and admission to the State Bar of Arizona (or from a state with Arizona bar reciprocity). Please include your Arizona State Bar license number on resume or cover letter
Four years of experience as a practicing civil or criminal attorney
One year of government law practice or advising on federal, state, and local laws and regulations
Working knowledge of the legal subject matter involved with the department to which assignment will be made
Experience in the practice of municipal law; the review, negotiation, and drafting of contracts or other primary responsibility for participation in transactional work
Experience with significant client contact; primary responsibility for civil litigation and pleading and motion-practice
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position
Preferred
Experience in the litigation of both state and federal court cases
Litigation experience in all stages of a case from filing through resolution including drafting and arguing motions, taking depositions, and investigating and preparing evidence
Experience with conflict resolution and creativity in alternative problem-solving techniques
