Parks Maintenance Technician
NEOGOV is seeking a Parks Maintenance Technician for the Town of Nashville, NC. This role involves the maintenance, operation, and care of parks, green spaces, cemeteries, and other facilities, requiring skilled tasks and the operation of various equipment.

Responsibilities
Operates a variety of medium to heavy equipment such as backhoe, dump truck, knuckle boom, and tractors with bush hog, sidearm, and other attachments
Operates backhoe to open and close graves for dis-internment and re-internment; assists funeral homes with installing and taking down tents and vault set-up; assists public and others with buying, selling, and location of plots
Maintains graves; adds soil needed from compaction or erosion; cleans up flowers and trash; cleans restrooms and work areas
Loads dirt, stone, mulch, and sand on trucks; removes heavy brush and debris
Performs grounds maintenance, including mowing grass, trimming shrubs and trees, watering, and assisting with horticultural practices such as fertilization and planting
Mows, trims, and cleans grounds at a variety of public parks and facilities; operates riding and push mowers, chain saws, and other light equipment
Oversees the work performed by the part-time park maintenance workers
Performs maintenance, minor construction, and repair duties on recreational facilities such as park facilities and concession stand, playgrounds, and picnic areas
Assists with facility maintenance for all facilities owned or operated by the Town
Operates tractor, and operates riding and hand mowers, weed eaters, backpack sprayer, and other maintenance equipment
Cleans park buildings including bathrooms and picks up trash
Follows all applicable safety rules and regulations
Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance to assigned equipment. Cleans and washes equipment on a periodic basis
Reports any unsafe conditions in parks, facilities, equipment, or other necessary repairs to supervisor
Maintains good relationships with the public through courtesy and respect to individual property
Participates in sign erection and repair
Assists with set-up and clean-up of Town sponsored programs and special events as needed
Completes weekly maintenance report and maintains simple records of work activities
Works at Town and Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources events as required
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school or equivalent and some related experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License
Considerable knowledge of the operation, maintenance, capabilities, and limitations or medium to heavy equipment used in the area of assignment
Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment utilized in cemetery, facilities, and parks and recreation maintenance
Working knowledge of the work hazards, related liabilities, and applicable safety standards associated with assigned work
Skill in the operation and care of several types of heavy, medium, and light equipment
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and citizens
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time and in varying weather conditions
Ability to read and write to complete reports
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions
Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Must possess the visual acuity necessary to use measurement devices, make visual inspections of completed work to determine neatness and thoroughness, operate equipment, perform trades work such as painting and carpentry, and distinguish safety hazards of the work which may affect self and others

401(k) supplemental retirement benefits are provided to all full-time employees with no employee contribution required.
The Town of Nashville contributes 3% of an employee's salary if they are a general employee and contributes 5% for law enforcement employees.
457(b) supplemental retirement benefits are also available for all employees.
