Aerospace CMM Programmer

Responsibilities

Act appropriately in situations requiring ethical decisions to ensure system integrity and regulatory compliance
Maintain professional bearing, attitude and manner at all times
Stay current with the advancements in Coordinate Measurement System (CMS) and metrology, quality assurance and engineering, for higher efficiency and lower cost
Maintain documentation and records, electronic /or hard-copy format, as objective evidence for quality system audits
Have knowledge of Customer Digital Product Definition (DPD) process and procedural requirements
Have knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System
Other responsibilities as assigned
Ensure that all environmental conditions are maintained to provide reliable measurements for inspection and calibrations for parabolic dimensional CMM requirements
Maintain, clean, and properly store measuring tools to ensure their working conditions
Perform laboratory housekeeping
Must have intermediate computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Word, Windows, and Excel at a minimum
Must be able to work safely and operate within established safety guidelines
Must have good oral and written communication skills
Understands how to separate and combine tasks into efficient workflow and is self-motivated
Willing to participate in cross-functional teams and is action-oriented for goals perceived as a challenge
Is dedicated to meeting/exceeding the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
Can operate with the constraints of a defined budget and provide input into the forecasting of the budget
Perform laboratory housekeeping
Maintain computer systems and software used in the metrology laboratory
Must be able to operate various types of precision instruments, Laser tracker, Portable CMM, and Stationary CMM and Programming
Calibrate and make minor repairs and adjustments to basic and advanced metrology equipment including recall, documentation, inventory, and system improvements
Ensure traceability to national standards is maintained and recorded. Metrology review in accordance with ISO 17025, ANSI/ASQ Q10012
Coordination of IM&TE recall, sending, receiving, and record-keeping to and from Calibration Vendors. T-Probes, Touch tip, and different PH10 or 20 probe heads
Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) in one of the following disciplines – electrical, dimensional, optical, physical/mechanical, chemical – in order to ensure compliance with published specifications
Maintain primary and or intrinsic calibration standards
Maintain secondary and/or working calibration standards
Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data gathered during calibration
Identify IM&TE out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective action via adjustments, component replacement, correction factors, etc
Prepare calibration PAS (Product Acceptance Software) reports and certificates for software updates
Review calibration certificates for completeness and traceability
Be able to read and interpret moderate to complex part drawings and recognize GD&T callouts
Identify and correct measurement errors, as applicable
Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
Must be able to determine when to apply rounding rules to measurement and calibration results. Included in this is the rounding-off that takes place during measurement unit conversions (inch to metric, etc.)
Set-up and operation of CMM and other automated equipment
Apply measurement science principles to specific problems to produce answers that make logical sense
Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
Choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
Communicate with Quality Engineers, Process Engineers, Product Engineers, Quality Technicians, and others as necessary regarding the transfer of data and methods of measurement
Be able to read and interpret simple to complex part drawings and recognize GD&T callouts
Perform layout inspections to support, but are not limited to, PPAP verifications, First Article inspections, and special requests
Provide measurement data in a format that is clear, concise, and understood by the customer
Analyze measurement data for identifying abnormalities, trends, and/or predicting future values
Identify and correct measurement errors, as applicable
Recommend IM&TE for use in measurement applications
Perform all types of product inspections and train others to perform these inspections per established quality plans and procedures to assure product quality
Conduct first-piece inspections on tools as necessary to facilitate tool acceptance and control
Maintain records of inspections and product acceptance performance
Perform FAIRs, and balloon drawings, review vendor CMM reports and analyze and calculate features for example, from basic dimensions for True Position (TP) or surface profile
Collect data for Statistical Process Control for process review and Cp, CPk calculations
Must be able to provide and facilitate gage and fixture design
Recognize and provide input on various issues related to developing, validating, and using both manual and automated calibration and measuring processes, including software-driven processes
Inspect and evaluate new calibration standards for proper CMS set-up and operation, before the use of Scale Bars articulation Probing of PCMM
Recommend standards and techniques for use in calibration applications
Train subordinates in techniques, calibration concepts, and procedures
Perform uncertainty evaluation and analysis for measurement standards and associated measurement processes
Provide input to the design effort and to the design review process to assure that information (drawings, etc.) that is delivered to the shop floor has adequate specifications and information content to assure that production personnel will be able to manufacture products that will meet the customer’s requirements. The design input provided by this position should also include the establishment of manufacturability of the product to the engineering specifications
Proctor and analyze data from measurement systems analysis and dimensional studies for continuous improvement projects
Follows the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) methodology to support and complete assigned projects

Required

Requires a BSCS or BSQA degree or a High School Diploma/GED, plus four (4) years relevant experience and appropriate certifications may be substituted for meeting educational requirements only
Requires three (3) years' experience performing inspection within a Quality certification organization or other regulated environment
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Knowledge of tool calibration and tracking of tools
CMM experience, operating, and programming
Able to work accurately in a fast-paced, hectic, ever-changing environment with strong attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to monitor own work to ensure quality, accuracy, and thoroughness
Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills
Able to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team
Advanced knowledge of inspection/metrology
Contribute towards continuous improvement with regards to Quality, efficiency, and customer-focused results
Manual dexterity to handle tools and equipment of different sizes
Proficient in the use of hand measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc
Willingness and ability to embrace new inspection tools and methodology
Ability to multi-task, perform efficiently, and independently
