Advanced Practice Provider, Internal Medicine-General Medicine

The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their Hospital Medicine team. This role involves providing comprehensive inpatient care in a collaborative academic environment alongside experienced physicians.

Responsibilities

Perform thorough history and physical exams
Order and interpret labs, imaging, and procedures
Develop and implement treatment plans with attending physicians
Manage hospitalized patients with complex conditions
Perform procedures within scope (e.g., central lines, LPs, paracentesis)
Document care and facilitate admissions/discharges
Participating in multidisciplinary rounds
Coordinate care with specialists and allied health professionals
Communicate effectively with patients and families
Engage in quality improvement and continuing education
Participate in training on goals-of-care conversations and procedures

Qualification

Physician Assistant CertificationLicensed Physician AssistantNurse Practitioner CertificationLicensed Registered NurseLicensed APRNBLS/ACLS CertificationInpatient ExperienceQuality Improvement InitiativesBedside Procedures

Required

Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB)
Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
BLS/ACLS Certification

Preferred

One to two years inpatient experience
Academic medical center background
Experience with QI initiatives and bedside procedures
