Responsibilities
Represent company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers
Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying material
Interview and hire staff, and oversee staff training
Locate vendors of materials and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales
Prepare and process purchase orders for material
Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers
Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability
Prepare and implement instructions regarding purchasing systems, policies, and procedures
Manage and administer inventory turn per corporate instructions
Keep inventory within the appropriate levels
Contract and arrange for disposal of surplus material and scrap
Assist sales department on mill inquiries and metallurgy assistance
Sit on ISO Steering Committee
Manage annual inventory count
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
