Transport Engineer Spec I - Amarillo Deisign
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transport Engineer Specialist I in the Amarillo Design Department to support planning and design efforts that improve mobility and enhance roadway safety. The role involves performing advanced drafting, calculations, and specialized design work while collaborating with various teams to strengthen community infrastructure.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Assists in planning and coordinating office operations
Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions
Performs advanced and specialized design work
Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features
Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic problems
Prepares field notes
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
6 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Extensive knowledge of advanced and specialized design/drafting procedures
Considerable knowledge of applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
Considerable knowledge of higher mathematics
Considerable knowledge of interactive graphic and design information systems
Considerable knowledge of applicable computer software applications and hardware
Some knowledge of computer-aided drafting and design systems
Some knowledge of design and plan preparation methods and requirements
Expert skill in advanced and specialized design/drafting
Proficient skill in maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
Standing-prolonged periods of time
Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
