Responsibilities

Underwrite residential mortgage loan applications in compliance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines
Analyze borrower credit, assets, and income, including complex income scenarios such as:
Self-employed borrowers
1099 income
Bank Statement programs
Asset depletion and utilization
Review and evaluate personal and business documentation, including 12- and 24-month bank statements, P&Ls, and cash flow statements
Maintain an underwriting pipeline that meets established SLAs and productivity benchmarks
Deliver clear, well-documented underwriting decisions and conditions aligned with program guidelines
Provide written justification for loan decisions and required conditions
Partner with Loan Officers, Account Managers, and Operations to resolve file-level questions and move loans efficiently toward closing
Support quality control standards, including:
Pre-closing defect rate below 10%
Post-closing defect rate below 5%
Stay current on Non-QM guideline updates, investor overlays, and regulatory requirements
Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and shared success

Required

2–5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including exposure to Non-QM or alternative documentation loans
Working knowledge of Non-QM products such as Bank Statement programs, DSCR, Asset Utilization, 1099 income
Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex borrower profiles
Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
A coachable mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and evolve within the role
Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a high level of accountability
