Deputy Chief Inspector
The City of New York is seeking a Deputy Chief Inspector for the Bureau of Fire Prevention. This role involves overseeing fire suppression systems, supervising inspectors, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to protect the public and firefighters.

Responsibilities
Oversee the testing, inspecting and maintenance of water base suppression systems (Standpipe and Sprinkler)
Directly supervise and train all lower-level Inspectors within their command structure
Review all work conducted by a field Inspector
Cover and witness any suppression testing when a subordinate Inspector is out on leave
Approve time keeping issues in CityTime
Conduct quarterly and annual evaluations of their subordinates
Maintain the rules for Inspectors like Code of Conduct and attendance issues
Meet with other agencies and units within FDNY to correspond on any variance or code interpretation
Qualification
Required
Five (5) years of full-time experience in or more of the following: the manufacture or storage of explosives or flammables; the development of safety standards for the manufacture or storage of such materials; the inspection of premises where such materials are manufactured, stored or houses to detect potential fire and explosion hazards; the design, installation, operation, repair and testing of sprinkler systems, standpipes, or other fire detection or fire extinguishing systems; or Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' above
Education from an accredited college or technical institution with specialization in fire science technology, chemistry, physics or engineering may be substituted for the experience requirement on the basis of one year of education (30 credits) for one year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York
Preferred
Permanent AFPI'S Level II and Level III may apply
Minimum three years supervisory skills in Suppression testing and examination
Strong knowledge of Fire Suppression inspections and operational practices
At least five (5) years of previous experience performing standpipe and sprinkler testing, PFE facility inspections, auditing field Inspectors work
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Strong computer skills especially with the FIRES/ACCELA application
