Director, Production Engineering
FPC of Brighton is seeking a Director of Production Engineering to lead the Digital Factory initiatives and production engineering integration. The role involves overseeing build planning, supplier collaboration, and developing scalable factory layouts while ensuring high-quality manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
Lead baseline build planning, engineering release sequencing, and development of the Digital Factory requirements, layout, and design
Establish and lead the EL9 Build Team; generate and manage the IMP/IMS for EL9 G0/G1 aircraft
Develop a scalable factory layout and perform trade studies (pulsing vs. fixed lines, feeder systems)
Build production models integrating cost, touch labor, learning curves, and takt-time variability
Evaluate Digital Factory tools (MRP, scanning, analytics, planning, flow control, metrics, kitting, inventory, financial integration)
Create a digital visualization database for full-vehicle engineering and customer configurations
Develop prototype and production build processes and tools
Oversee build/liaison teams at major aerostructure suppliers to ensure timely build and delivery
Define MRP requirements for current/future build systems; lead Manufacturing Engineering & Operations for high-quality planning
Manage tooling design/build for EL9 G0/G1 final assembly
Review engineering tools/processes, perform VSM analysis, and recommend Lean Engineering improvements
Analyze prototype EBOM and work with IPTs to establish procurement codes
Generate preliminary MBOM, define production breaks, and align with factory build plans
Define configuration end items for FAA PCA and V&V
Conduct producibility assessments; identify manufacturing improvements (accessibility, sequencing, paint/sealant/routing)
Establish MRB plan and liaison engineering training
Validate MBOM vs. EBOM to ensure engineering completeness and integration with the master schedule
Load and prepare the MRP system for P1–P4 builds and inventory control
Partner with Supply Chain to evaluate major suppliers for component build/assembly participation
Use master schedule and MBOM to generate lead times and need dates for supplier and internal manufacturing
Support communication of delivery dates with appropriate margins
Help define critical supplier deliverables and FAA CofC requirements
Validate Tier 1 supplier quality plans/processes
Support SCM and Engineering in selecting remaining Tier 1–3 suppliers
